EMS Facility Dog
Evergreen Middle School is excited to introduce our upcoming School Facility Dog Program, a new initiative that will strengthen both the mental health and academic success of our students. While our school facility dog has not arrived, preparations are already underway to make this program meaningful within our school community.
Our future school facility dog will be a professionally trained, certified working dog from the Ability Center in Sylvania, OH. A School Facility Dog will be a steady, familiar presence in our building. The dog will spend time in the school counselor’s office, classrooms, and hallways to support students in moments of stress, encourage positive behavior, and help create a calm, welcoming environment where students can thrive.
At Evergreen Middle School, we know that emotional wellbeing and academic success go hand in hand. The presence of a school facility dog can lower levels of anxiety, help students regulate their emotions during difficult times, and give them a comforting, safe point of connection.
Our program will emphasize community and responsibility. Students will learn respectful interaction, empathy, and care by observing how the dog is treated as a working partner. Clear guidelines will ensure that all students feel safe and included, with protocols addressing allergies, behavior expectations, hygiene, and the dog’s wellbeing.
As we prepare for the dog’s arrival, Evergreen Middle School is developing thoughtful procedures, safety standards, and schedules that prioritize both student needs and the health of our new four-legged teammate. We are committed to building a program that reflects the values of our school; compassion, resilience, and a supportive learning environment where every student can grow.
More updates will be shared as we get closer to welcoming our school facility dog to campus. We can’t wait for this new addition to the Evergreen community. Thank you for helping us bring this heartwarming resource to our campus!
